Explore the Habitats of Coastal Alabama

The Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is an exciting educational facility with visual and engaging exhibits that include touch tanks and a real-time weather station. 31 aquariums with over 30,000 gallons of water, as well as a Marsh Boardwalk, highlight the four key habitats of Coastal Alabama: the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, the Barrier Islands and the Northern Gulf of Mexico. Visitors to the Estuarium experience the sensation of touching sting rays, learn about a myriad of local aquatic animal and plant life and if they’re lucky may even catch the large gallery tank feeding on Tuesday’s, Thursdays and Sundays. All of this in an atmosphere that delivers a broader understanding of the interactions that take place in Mobile Bay, the fourth largest estuary system in the United States.
